Xerostomia or dryness of the oral cavity is now affecting 1 out of every 4 adults and has become one of the most common oral health pathologies. To refer to a condition that can be utterly debilitating as simply 'dry mouth' appears highly insensitive for those who are truly suffering. Advances in medicine prolonging lifespan, over 1100 drugs that are classified xerogenic, the growing use of CPAP machines, the rapid rise in diabetes, and HPV-driven head and neck cancers are among the contributing factors. The absence of saliva has a localized, systemic, and social impact on the affected person. We will explore the many diverse and competitively differentiated dry mouth solutions available. Be armed with transformative solutions to combat the silent struggle of xerostomia for so many of your patients.
Learning Objectives:
To understand the prevalence and etiology of xerostomia related to today’s population.
To incorporate evaluative salivary assessment into clinical practice.
