Gingival recession, characterized by an apical shift of the gingival margin, leading to root surface exposure, is a prevalent concern in dental practice. While it can affect any teeth, it is commonly seen in the mandibular anterior area, presenting unique challenges and considerations. This lecture aims to provide a comprehensive overview of gingival recession in the mandibular anterior teeth observed in various age groups. We will delve into the etiologies and relevant features that contribute to this condition, enabling a deeper understanding of the risk of occurrence, preventive strategies, and anticipated treatment outcomes. In addition, we will discuss the timing of treatment interventions and treatment modalities based on the currently available evidence in order to achieve our goal of maintaining the health of mandibular anterior teeth.
Learning Objectives:
Recognize etiologies of mandibular anterior gingival recession.
Understand preventive measures of gingival recession.
